Chily: app privacy

This page applies to Chily (Chily Tavern), published by SocialPlay AI Limited, 71–75 Shelton Street, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.

It sits alongside our general Privacy Policy and adds the detail specific to Chily. Chily is a character conversation app rather than a game, so several parts of the general policy do not apply to it. Where the two differ, this page governs Chily.

What Chily is, in privacy terms

Chily is a local-first Android app with no account. It never asks for your name, email, or phone number. Your characters and conversations are stored on your phone, not on our servers.

There are two ways to get replies, and they send your messages to different places. You choose when you first send a message, and you can change it any time in Settings.

What stays on your device

Imported character cards and their original files.
Conversations, message variants, personas, and presets.
If you use your own provider key, that key, held in the Android Keystore.

What leaves your device

If you use Chily AI

Your message, the character, and the recent conversation go to a SocialPlay AI server, which passes them to our model provider (OpenRouter) and streams the reply back.

SocialPlay AI does not keep a copy of the prompt or the reply.
What OpenRouter and the model provider behind it do with that request is governed by their policies, not ours. See https://openrouter.ai/privacy
To operate the free test allowance, that server records a random device identifier, a count of replies used, and the time of each one. No message content is in those records.
That identifier is generated on your phone and is not linked to your name or an account. Uninstalling Chily removes it from your phone.
We have not set an automatic expiry on the records held on our server, so treat them as kept for the duration of the test. We intend to define a retention period before Chily leaves testing.

If you use your own key

Chily sends the same prompt directly to OpenRouter using your key. It does not pass through SocialPlay AI, and we never see your key or your messages.

Analytics

Chily uses Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used: for example that a character was chosen, that a message was sent, or how long a reply took.

Event names and parameter values are a fixed list enforced in code. Chily does not send API keys, prompts, card text, conversation text, persona text, or the names of characters you created or imported. First-party starter characters are identified by a short slug; everything you made or imported is reported only as custom.

Reporting a reply

If you use Report response on an assistant message and confirm, Chily sends that one message plus a reason to SocialPlay AI so we can review it. It does not send the rest of the chat, the character card, or your key.

What Chily does not do

No ads. Chily contains no advertising SDK, and the advertising-identifier permissions are removed from the app.
No account, no sign-in, no profile.
No sale of personal information.
SocialPlay AI does not train models on your conversations.
Relationship backups (.chilybackup) do not include API keys.

Parts of our general policy that describe game accounts, friends lists, push notifications, advertising, and Unity Ads do not apply to Chily.

Where data is processed

The Chily server runs in Google Cloud (us-central1) and its usage records are held in Google Firestore in the United States. If you are outside the United States, this means your request is processed abroad; where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

Your controls

Settings → Delete all data removes local characters, conversations, and personas.
Remove key deletes your key from the Keystore. You can also revoke it in your OpenRouter account.
Export card and relationship backup let you leave with your files.
You can switch between Chily AI and your own key at any time.

The usage records described above contain no content and nothing that identifies you, and the device identifier is not shown in the app, so we cannot locate an individual person's records on request. If you want them removed and can tell us the device identifier, email us and we will delete them.

Age

Chily is for adults (18+). Do not use it if you are under 18.
